It seems as though fame and fortune just isn't enough for some people. Charlie Sheen became the King of sitcoms when he negotiated a deal worth $1.78 million per episode for season 8. However, On January 28, 2011, Sheen entered a rehabilitation center voluntarily for the third time in 12 months. Warner Bros. Television and CBS put the show on hiatus for an unknown amount of time. That all changed February 24, 2011, when CBS announced that Two and a Half Men would stop production for the season. Charlie had made verbal attacks towards Chuck Lorre ( Two and a Half Men producer).
Chuck Lorre, the producer who has worked on such shows as The Big Bang Theory, Grace Under Fire, Dharma & Greg, Two and a Half Men, and Mike & Molly, has long voiced his opinions through his own production company "vanity card" displayed at the end of episodes. One recent card was targeted at Charlie Sheen:
"I exercise regularly. I eat moderate amounts of healthy food. I make sure to get plenty of rest. I see my doctor once a year and my dentist twice a year. I floss every night. I've had chest x-rays, cardio stress tests, EKG's and colonoscopies. I see a psychologist and have a variety of hobbies to reduce stress. I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't do drugs. I don't have crazy, reckless sex with strangers."
"If Charlie Sheen outlives me, I'm gonna be really pissed."
These comments may have upset Charlie Sheen, as he sent an open letter to TMZ voicing his feelings towards Chuck Lorre:
"What does this say about Haim Levine [Chuck Lorre] after he tried to use his words to judge and attempt to degrade me. I gracefully ignored this folly for 177 shows ... I fire back once and this contaminated little maggot can't handle my power and can't handle the truth. I wish him nothing but pain in his silly travels especially if they wind up in my octagon. Clearly I have defeated this earthworm with my words -- imagine what I would have done with my fire breathing fists. I urge all my beautiful and loyal fans who embraced this show for almost a decade to walk with me side-by-side as we march up the steps of justice to right this unconscionable wrong. Remember these are my people ... not yours...we will continue on together..."
The crew and actors of Two and a Half Men have really lost out in this mess. It's a shame that with all the money involved, a number one sitcom had to be derailed by egos and a drug addiction. It's hard to say if Two and a Half Men will ever continue production with a new lead actor, or even seize to make new episodes. One thing's for sure, America still wants to watch Two and a Half Men, as 11.5 million viewers tuned in to watch a rerun this past Monday.
